15th September - Reflection

Throughout yesterday and today, using materials such a coloured paper, thread, paints, fabric and glue we began building and planning our project before lunch. I wanted to decorate my chair using objects that represented my background, so I took in the idea of using coloured paper to decorate my chair. I used this idea because back home we have these very colourful trucks, and inspired by the vibrant colours, I went ahead and decorated my chair. I also created a sweet dish that many of my people love to eat and are widely recognised by it, however, because I wasn't able to bring in the actual dish, I used coloured paper to create it instead. To add a few more objects so I brought in my prayer mat to indicate my religion because its part of who I am and I wanted people to know that.

After we finished building everything, we arranged our chairs into a circle, so that the viewers could walk around each chair without any problem.

We wanted to create this installation because we were inspired by the idea on sitting on chair. Usually when you sit on a chair you put yourself in position where people can only identify you through your persona, however, because we wanted to go for an idea where we represent who we actually are. So instead of us sitting on those chairs, we placed objects that indicated our backgrounds instead.

We had a lot of positive feedbacks and many liked the idea since it helped them learn a bit more about our backgrounds.

I personally really liked this project because I was able to express a lot about myself using practical projects instead of words. However, one thing I wish could change, is to work with a lot more materials since felt like the materials I worked with were very limited.
